The Calvi Riviera Ligure DOP "Lucinasco" wins "Eccellenza Olearia di Liguria"

An extraordinary edition of Mare&Mosto 2023 – Le Vigne Sospese.

This event, organized by Ais Liguria – Italian Association Sommelier , is dedicated to wine, oil and the flavors of the Ligurian territory.

The eighth edition of Mare & Mosto has seen the introduction of the “Eccellenze Olearie di Liguria” competition, in collaboration with the Consorzio di Tutela dell’Olio Extra virgin olive oil Riviera Ligure dop  reserved to certified “Riviera Ligure DOP” extra virgin olive oils. The objective of this competition is to determine the best of the Riviera Ligure DOPs of the 2022-2023 vintage, awarding it the prestigious title of “Excellence in Ligurian Olearia”.< /p>

The tasting panel, led by Luigi Caricato, a well-known oil expert of international renown and founder and director of Olioofficina, tasted 24 Riviera Ligure DOP extra virgin olive oils from all over Liguria, with a predominance of productions from the West, where most of the olive-growing companies, mills and oil packers are concentrated.

< p>The announcement of the winner took place on Sunday 21 May, this year the title of Eccellenza Olearia Ligure was assigned to the Riviera Ligure Dop – Riviera dei Fiori “Lucinasco” of the Giuseppe Calvi & C. of Imperia. This Calvi extra virgin olive oil can now boast the title of Eccellenza Olearia Ligure 2023!

This is a great recognition for the historic Imperia company Giuseppe Calvi & C., which this year celebrates 102 years of activity.

A point of pride for the Calvi company is the Frantoio Aziendale, known in the Imperia area for the passion of the owners Gianni and Luca Calvi. Attention, fussiness, care for cleaning and continuous technological innovation are the distinctive features of the Calvi Company.

The Riviera Ligure extra virgin olive oil DOP “Lucinasco” is obtained by pressing only Taggiasca olives from DOP certified olive groves in the Municipality of Lucinasco, in the hinterland of Imperia.

The area enjoys a strategic geographical position which favors the optimal growth of the olive trees. The abundant exposure to the sun, the temperate climate and the nutrient-rich soil contribute to the prosperity of these millenary plants. Here, the olive trees are in harmony with the surrounding environment, capturing the essence of the Ligurian territory and giving an oil with unique characteristics.

The presence of 55,000 olive trees in Lucinasco is not only a testimony of the passion of its inhabitants, but also of the constant commitment to preserve and enhance the extra virgin olive oil of the Ligurian Riviera. Here, the territory becomes a precious guardian of the age-old traditions linked to olive growing, offering an authentic combination of landscape, history and unique flavours.
