The Calvi Riviera Ligure DOP “Lucinasco” is still number ONE! The Calvi Riviera Ligure D.O.P. Riviera dei Fiori “Lucinasco” was awarded best Riviera Ligure PDO at the Masters of Olive Oil International Contest best olive oils held in Monte Carlo in June 2023 with oils coming from all over the world.
It is the second time that our “Lucinasco” has won best Ligure PDO this year after the “Eccellenze Olearie di Liguria” held in May 2023 in Sestri Levante at the Mare & Mosto event of wines, oils and typical products of Liguria by the “Associazione Italiana Sommelier”. Two awards means a double confirmation of the very high quality of this product by Giuseppe Calvi & C.
The Calvi Riviera Ligure DOP Luciniasco awarded best Riviera Ligure DOP 2022-23
The Calvi “Lucinasco” extra virgin olive oil is obtained exclusively from Taggiasca olives grown in the municipality of Lucinasco in the hinterland of Imperia: an area particularly suited to the production of the Taggiasca olive. The olives are pressed the same evening as the harvest at the Calvi Oil Mill, in Pontedassio (IM). This is a small mill in which we have dedicated a great deal of investment, both in time and money, into the quality of the milling process for a number of years. It now has, among other things, a modern defoliation and olive washing station, a crusher with a water-cooled multi-blade impeller, malaxing machine with automatic temperature control, and a two-phase water-cooled extractor. The crusher in particular – thanks to its characteristics – is such that it enhances the polyphenolic contents and aromatic profile of the oil and during the crushing process, separates the skin, pulp and stones of the olives. The two-phase extractor – thanks to the minimum amount of water needed to be added to the olive paste, guarantees the transfer of a very high percentage of the polyphenols present in the fruit into the resulting oil. All this means that all the perfumes and aromas of which the Taggiasca Olive is capable can be transferred into the oil. The awards obtained in 2023 honour a winning combination: the combination of fruit quality and processing quality.
