Tomato passata is the base for all Italian tomato sauce dishes. An uncooked sauce, it is made at the end of the tomato season, providing a way of maximising their use and ensuring a supply of tomatoes for dishes throughout the rest of the year.

Its name comes from the fact that the tomatoes are passed (“passata”) through a sieve or press to separate the pulp and remove the seeds, skins and excess water.

Selected vine-ripened Italian tomatoes, with the addition of a few basil leaves and a pinch of salt, make up our tomato passata.

A basic essential in any kitchen. 

Ideal for making a quick and simple, but delicious pasta sauce with the addition of a couple of cloves of crushed garlic, a few tablespoonfuls of a good olive oil, a tablespoonful of balsamic vinegar and fresh ground black pepper to taste.

Alternatively perfect as a base for making more complex dishes, such as curries, lasagne, spaghetti bolognese...etc
